Alverno College Taking Part in Wisconsin Private College Week

July 8, 2014

Alverno College, along with Wisconsin’s other 22 private, nonprofit colleges and universities, is taking part in Wisconsin Private College Week; July 14 through July 19. Celebrating its nineteenth year, Wisconsin Private College Week is sponsored by the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) and provides students the opportunity to visit all of Wisconsin’s private nonprofit colleges.

During Wisconsin Private College Week, students can take advantage of campus tours, meet with admission counselors, get financial aid and scholarship information, and much more. As a special incentive, those who visit participating campuses during Wisconsin Private College Week will have their college application fee waived.

Students visiting Alverno College can get a sneak peek at the $30 million expansion and renovation taking place on campus. When it’s completed, the project will include a brand new classroom building, state-of-the-art nursing simulation center, art and dance studios, servery and commons. All of the student-centered offices will also be located on the newly-designed Student Main Street, including Financial Aid, Career Education, Internship, Advising, Admissions and Student Affairs.

“Meeting current students and staff on campus is an important step in choosing a college,” said Kate Lundeen, vice president for Enrollment Services at Alverno College. “Private College Week is a great opportunity for students to see first-hand everything Alverno has to offer.” To see a schedule of events or to register for a campus preview at Alverno, go to http://www.alverno.edu/pcw/.

Students also can register to win one of five $1,000 “Go Grants” during Wisconsin Private College Week to apply towards tuition at one of our state’s private nonprofit colleges or universities.

“Wisconsin’s private nonprofit colleges and universities are committed to making college affordable. The key question everyone should ask is, ‘which college or university is best for me?’” said Dr. Rolf Wegenke, president of WAICU. He noted that more than 90 percent of first-year students attending Wisconsin private colleges and universities receive financial aid so that, for many, out-of-pocket costs are comparable to those charged to students attending public institutions.
