Callen Construction and Callen Design Group Announce 2nd Annual “Refashion For Life” Proceeds

July 15, 2009

Callen Construction, a family-owned, full-service home improvement and remodeling company in Muskego, Wis., and Callen Design Group, experts in the design and construction of kitchens, bathrooms, basement remodels, and attic renovations, announced that the “ReFashion for Life” fashion show fundraising event benefiting CommonGround Ministry/Elena’s House generated net proceeds of more than $24,000. The benefit took place on Thurs., July 9, at the Callen Showroom and company grounds in Muskego.

Proceeds will be used to support the programs offered by CommonGround Ministry/Elena’s House in Wauwatosa, which provides physical, spiritual, and emotional support to people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Elena’s House, offering a holistic ministry that is both personal and communal, is a home for four to five people that wish to reside in a safe and supportive living environment. CommonGround Ministry is a 501(c)3 organization funded through the contributions of individuals, organizations, and foundations.

“The planning committee once again put in a tremendous effort, and the entire evening was terrific, as everything came off as planned,” said Mary Ellen Huwiler, executive director for CommonGround Ministry/Elena’s House. “The funds raised will allow us to continue to provide the needed services required by the individuals we house, plus we can enhance the services offered to make our residents more comfortable.”

Callen Design Group Senior Designer Jillaine Burton said the event once again showed how fashion is not only found in what people wear, but in how they renovate their home. “Seeing new and repurposed clothing along with viewing a multitude of options available to homeowners enabled us to show attendees how to create a look that works for them,” Burton said. “This event offered ideas on how to dress up wardrobes and homes, in an economical and environmentally-friendly way.”

The event featured a fashion show that combined the latest in late summer and fall fashion wearables in conjunction with fashionable products for the home, including countertops, cabinetry, plumbing and light fixtures, flooring, and hardware. In addition to the runway show, there was a silent and voice auction that featured entertainment and sporting tickets, boutique certificates, and more. Saz’s Catering provided Hors d’oeuvres, plus there was music by Mr. Lucky Light.
