Bryant and Stratton Receives National Accreditation for Nursing Program

Sept. 14, 2009

Bryant & Stratton College (BSC) has received national recognition for its Nursing Program, which boasts a 100 percent placement rate for all graduates. The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) has awarded BSC’s Wauwatosa Campus accreditation for its Nursing Program, which first admitted students in January 2005.

“We offer a competitive program that attracts students throughout Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, and we’re pleased that the Commission is recognizing our high standards,” said Dr. Elizabeth Markham, academic program director of the Nursing Program.

“We are proud to say that even during this economic climate, after graduates pass the NCLEX-RN exam they have no problem finding jobs,” said Markham. “We’re confident that this accreditation will open even more doors for our students.”

BSC’s Associate Nursing Program offers flexible class schedules, including options for students to complete the program in less than two years. The program, which has approximately 250 students, features an advisory board comprised of representatives and specialists from community agencies, area clinics and hospitals. The Nursing Program also maintains partnerships with several major healthcare systems including Aurora Health Care, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Columbia St. Mary’s.

“Among our unique aspects, our ‘CARE’ program particularly stood out with the Commission,” said Dr. Markham. The Comprehensive Advisory Review and Evaluation (“CARE”) program provides in-depth, one-on-one mentoring with students to help them address their weaknesses while building upon their strengths. “We have found that the program has already been very successful in enhancing retention and graduation rates.”

The Nursing Program offers hands-on clinical experiences to prepare students for a variety of nursing roles including care nurses in emergency rooms, medical surgical units, mother/baby units and more.

“We’ve noticed growing enrollments each semester, especially now that displaced workers are pursuing second careers. They’re taking advantage of the opportunity to change fields and enter an industry with promising and expanding job opportunities,” explained Markham.

BSC offers three campuses in the Milwaukee area, including locations in Wauwatosa, Downtown Milwaukee and its newest state-of-the art campus at Bayshore Town Center in Glendale. All campuses offer Associate, Bachelor and continuing education programs. Interested students can obtain more information on the school and accreditation of the Nursing Program by calling 414-302-7000, or visiting www.bryantstratton.edu.
