Ask NOW: What's happening at 84th and Bluemound?

Feb. 23, 2011

Is there a rumor you've heard that you would like to track down? Is there something in the community that needs to get fixed? Mary Malahy explains some of the mysteries of life in the Tosa area.

What's happening at 84th and Bluemound?

Issue: Several readers have written in to ask what is happening at the intersection of 84th Street and Bluemound Road, near the Tosa border. There are orange barrels and construction equipment at the intersection.

Status: The city of Milwaukee is replacing the sewer lines at that intersection, said Lynn Des Jardins, construction supervisor for the city of Milwaukee.

The project extends along Bluemound Road from 79th to 84th streets.

The city didn't want to tear the roads up because they are fairly new, she explained. Instead, crews are tunneling under the roads to complete the repairs. In some areas, the workers have to tunnel as deep as 45 feet, which is why they need all that equipment, Jardins said.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-May.
