Bigg's Roadhouse closed in Wauwatosa, being sold to DOT
After 12 years in business, Bigg's Roadhouse switched their electric sign to "closed," and shut down the restaurant May 31 at 1900 N. Mayfair Road.
Louie Pagoudis, who owns the business and building, said he is planning to sell the property to the state Department of Transportation for their work on the nearby Zoo Interchange.
DOT spokesman Michael Pyritz said the site would be helpful during construction on Highway 45, which is just north of the property. He said if the restaurant had continued operating during construction, there would have been significant disruption to the business.
Pagoudis said he hopes to find a new location for his restaurant somewhere in Wauwatosa or nearby.
"I was born and raised in Wauwatosa, and I want to stay," Pagoudis said. "We've been there 12 years and we love the neighborhood, and we have all our regular customers who we miss already."
Although the restaurant has been cited for health issues in the past, Wauwatosa Health Officer Nancy Kreuser said the restaurant's most recent inspection was clean. Pagoudis said previous citations from health inspections were appealed and dismissed.
