Meijer to open in August; begins hiring

Meijer announced Jan. 28 that it plans to open its Wauwatosa store in August at Burleigh and 112th streets. The store will open just two months after other Meijer stores open in Grafton and Kenosha.

Hiring is already under way for leadership positions, the company said in a press release, and another 1,000 employees will be hired in March for area stores.

The Meijer supercenter, open 24 hours a day, will have groceries, a bakery and a pharmacy. A grand-opening date will be announced about six weeks in advance, the company reported.

Purr Tosa closes after two years in business

Purr Tosa, 12201 W. North Ave., had its last day of business Jan. 16 after two years of business as a "boutique for cats and the people who love them."

On her website, owner Amy Dedow said she was not able to renew the lease. She said the business had some debt and she was hoping to liquidate her inventory to break even and "walk away clean with only happy memories."

In addition to selling products for cats, the store hosted cat-related artwork and provided on-site cat adoptions.

"What a wonderful and uplifting two years it has been," Dedow wrote. "I loved supporting our community cat rescues, looking at all your cat pictures and sharing laughs and disappointments. Having the adult foster cats in the store was the most gratifying of all."
