Local Color: Artists of Elm Grove at The Dooryard Gallery Through November 19

Oct. 26, 2011

Elm Grove--The Dooryard Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition of recent work in a variety of media by ten artists with ties to Elm Grove, Wisconsin.

Artists selected for “Local Color” include Elm Grove resident Lynn Schoenecker, whose current body of work employees a silkscreening technique which mirrors the layers and weight of earthy plant textures. Painter and opera singer Ginger Frederick grew up in Elm Grove and maintains strong ties to Elm Grove. Frederick’s expressionist landscapes, florals, and still lifes are lively and colorful, imparting a sense of joy. Watercolorist and long-time local resident Karen Finerty enjoys the unpredictability and vivid color of her medium.

Kristy Goggio is a mixed media artist whose bird images have evolved through the years. Her current “Songbird” series combines oil painting and sheet music to create works with exception color and texture. Richard W. Patt, a perennial favorite at The Dooryard Gallery, expresses common rural scenes with his signature textures and palettes. Painter Judith Pichler is a graduate of Layton School of Art. Her impressionist landscapes “create a sense of place in a moment of time.” Symmetry, geometry, and a desire for technical mastery dominate Claudine Cobra Willoughby’s stoneware and porcelain pottery. Her signature dragonfly motifs are achieved with a novel stenciling techinique.

Fiber artist Peggy Teich’s collectible wool hooked rugs are created with hand-dyed wool. Teich’s rugs, which are primarily used as wall hangings, have been featured on the White House Christmas tree, Country Living Magazine, Country Home Magazine, and other fine publications. Tom Stocki and Thomas Buchs have been active in the area arts scene for many years, both as commercial artists at Elm Grove’s The Art Factory, Ltd. and as fine art painters. Stocki, another graduate of Layton School of Art, has served for many years as an influential art educator. Buchs is an award-winning artist who is actively involved with Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association.

“LOCAL COLOR: Elm Grove Artists” opened with a reception for the artists on Saturday, October 22. The exhibition continues through November 19. The Dooryard Gallery features nature-inspired art, fine craft, and garden accents by local and regional artists. Regular hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10-4; Thursday 10-6; Saturday 10-2; and by appointment. The gallery is located in Village Court, 890 Elm Grove Road, Elm Grove, WI.
