Faculty members from St. Norbert College and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay who have been selected to teach the inaugural class of medical students at MCW-Green Bay attended an orientation session in December at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee.
MCW-Green Bay, which will welcome its first class of students in July 2015, has an immersive three-year curriculum in which students will complete both basic science and clinical training in the region.
Fifteen science faculty members have been identified at MCW-Green Bay’s academic partners to provide instruction in classes such as anatomy, physiology, neuroscience and cell biology to medical students.
Faculty from St. Norbert College are:
Deborah Anderson, Ph.D., associate professor of biology
David Bailey, Ph.D., associate professor of biology
Russ Feirer, Ph.D., associate professor of biology
David Hunnicutt, Ph.D., associate professor of biology
Cynthia Ochsner, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry

While visiting the MCW-Milwaukee medical school campus, the visiting faculty received an overview of medical classroom teaching methodologies and modern-day medical education, participated in research and case-based roundtable discussions, took a regional campus tour, and met with campus leaders for an informal question-and-answer session.
“The quality of these faculty members is impressive, and we are excited to partner together with St. Norbert and UW-Green Bay to ensure our students will receive a top notch education in basic sciences,” said Matthew Hunsaker, MD, campus dean of MCW-Green Bay. “Many of the faculty of MCW-GB currently also participate in research, which will further enrich the opportunities afforded the students on our campus. The partnership is key to delivering a world-class medical education close to home.”
The MCW-Green Bay classrooms are housed on the St. Norbert College campus, but students also will use MCW facilities at Bellin College. When the students begin their clinical rotations, they will receive training at the campus’s health care partners, Bellin Health, Hospital Sisters Health System, Prevea Health, and the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic.
