Glencastle Irish Dancers to Perform at Irish Fest

Aug. 13, 2015

All are invited to come check out the Glencastle Irish Dancers (GID) who are performing this weekend at Milwaukee Irish Fest. Irish Fest, the world’s largest celebration of Irish music and culture, starts this Friday and runs through Sunday at the lakefront festival grounds.

“Our kids and their families wait all year for this weekend,” said Bridget Jaskulski, Glencastle’s TCRG and owner of the West Allis dance school, now in its 15th year. “Our school puts a lot of effort into the shows…and all students are invited to participate. As you can imagine, they jump at the chance to perform on the big stage in front of thousands of people, and take it very seriously. And while the dancers get an opportunity to showcase the steps they’ve been working on throughout the year, our audience is able to see a first-rate choreographed show that never runs low on energy. We have a great time…and it shows.”

Although Irish Fest is certainly a highlight of the year for most irish dancers, there are many opportunities to perform and compete throughout the year. “Most of our dancers want to do both; however there is a lot of flexibility that allows families to take the lead from their child and decide what level of involvement is right for their family,” assures Jaskulski. Teaching all levels from beginners (starting at age 4) to champion dancers, and even adults, everyone finds their niche, feels welcome and is included in the Glencastle family.

“It’s remarkable how the teaching staff and families at Glencastle have become a second family to us,” remarked Sue Wetjen, a GID parent. “We went to watch a neighbor dance in her first Glencastle show at Irish Fest back in 2006. My 5-year-old daughter thought it looked like fun and asked if she could do it. Nine years later, not only is she still passionate about it, but my son dances with the school as well. It is certainly a family affair.”

Glencastle Irish Dancers will be performing Saturday, August 15th at 4:45pm on the Tipperary Stage, and again on Sunday, August 16th at 12:30pm on the Aer Lingus Stage. All are welcome. For a schedule and ticket prices, visit irishfest.com.
