The Corked Canvas hosts “Paint Your Pet” fundraiser for Elmbrook Humane Society

April 28, 2016

The Corked Canvas is hosting a fundraiser for Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS) on May 5, 2016, starting at 5:30 p.m. The event, presented by EBHS’s Emerging Leader Board, is open to the public. Participants will spend the evening painting their loved pets. The Corked Canvas will be donating many paintings created by their own professional artists to be included in a silent auction along with pet-themed baskets.

Cassandra Smith, Emerging Leader Board President, said, “It has been fun working with Kristy, E.C. and their staff at The Corked Canvas. I always enjoy seeing two local businesses working together for a great cause. Not only do animal lovers get to create a keepsake of their pet, but it will be a relaxing event to unwind after the work day. This is a first of its kind event for the Elmbrook community and I look forward to other community members to discover the amazing work that staff at EBHS does.”

Participants at the event email a photo of their pet ahead of the event to Kristy Goggio, owner of The Corked Canvas. The professional artists will pre-sketch the pet, caricature style, on an 11x14 canvas. Two pets will be sketched on a 16x20 canvas, and several color options are available for backgrounds. Clearly a concept embraced by pet lovers, it sold out in four days! Due to high interest, The Corked Canvas will be offering ongoing “Paint Your Pet” classes; one is already scheduled in July. Check The Corked Canvas’s website under “calendar” for more information.

Kristy Goggio, owner of The Corked Canvas, said, “This is an example of the fund-raising events we do, partnering with area nonprofits. I’m happy to contribute several professional paintings to the silent auction along with a percentage of all registrations and silent auction items to EBHS. Our local business can help our local humane society greatly this evening. It’s our pleasure.”

The Corked Canvas is a “create & sip” venue that features many outstanding studio times with a variety of options. Some examples are Wine Glass Wednesday & Saturday, Sunday Mimosa, decoupage, scrapbooking, Friday Date Night, Saturday Splatter Day, Kid’s Canvas Summer Camp packages, adult day class programs, and Sunday Family Day includes discount packages.

The Corked Canvas specializes in private parties, birthday, corporate team building, baby showers and bachelorette parties “customized” with exceptional ideas.

The Muse Room bar offers a great selection of wines and beer and appetizers to share. In the Muse Room, open studio time is available, where you can do-your-own-thing (non-instructor led). Paint a canvas, wine glass, beer glass or mug, decorate a 4x4 tile, make a wine charm, play with an etch-a-sketch, doodle a sheet, or join a Pictionary Party, have fun; create & sip! Heather Gehrke, Executive Director of EBHS, said, “Elmbrook Humane Society is excited to be working with The Corked Canvas to host “Paint Your Pet Night.” We are grateful for community partners like Kristy and E.C. Goggio who help us fulfill our mission to provide shelter for homeless animals, promote the human animal bond, and prevent animal cruelty and neglect.”

The Corked Canvas was envisioned and started by Kristy and E.C. Goggio in 2015. Kristy is a professional artist and graduated from MIAD with a BFA.
