MADACC Outdoor Kennel Grand Opening & Ribbon-Cutting Set for October 13

The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC), Friends of MADACC (FOM), and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke will celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the “Operation Sunshine” Outdoor Kennel Project with a Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, October 13, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MADACC. The Ribbon-Cutting Program and Ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. MADACC is located at 3839 W. Burnham St. in West Milwaukee.

The event will include kennel and shelter tours, a ribbon-cutting, raffle prizes, and light refreshments. Attendees are invited to bring a toy specifically for the Outdoor Kennels. Bark N' Scratch Outpost, 5835 W. Blue Mound Rd. in Milwaukee, will hold a special sale on outdoor toys in advance of the event specifically for this purpose. Attendees can also visit Friends of MADACC's Wish List on Amazon.com to order outdoor toys and have them shipped directly to FOM’s attention at MADACC.

Friends of MADACC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of Milwaukee County’s homeless animals housed at the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC). MADACC currently rescues and assures safe, temporary shelter, veterinary, and humane care for over 13,000 stray, unwanted, abandoned, mistreated, and injured animals each year — more than any other animal control shelter in Wisconsin.

“Operation Sunshine” is the culmination of FOM’s fundraising efforts to build 15 outdoor kennels and one dog exercise area to be used for exercise, training, adoption events, and other activities at MADACC. Just like humans benefit from sunshine, fresh air, and exercise, dogs do too. Spending more time outdoors can have physical and emotional benefits for dogs. Dogs will be able to engage in behaviors that relieve stress and boredom and improve their overall health and well-being while at MADACC. Through the generosity of the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, FOM also received a $10,000 donation from The U.S. Department of Justice’s Asset Forfeiture Program towards this project.

Additional funds raised by Friends of MADACC support facility improvements, educational programs like Battle Against Dogfighting (BAD), and spay/neuter surgeries to increase adoption placement of the animals at MADACC and help reduce Milwaukee County’s pet overpopulation program.
