Early Registration for Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC Ends June 16

Friends of MADACC will host its first annual Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC presented by Modern Woodmen of America on Saturday, June 22 – and early registration closes June 16. Friends of MADACC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of Milwaukee County’s homeless animals housed at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC).

Attendees can participate in the competitive, chip-timed 5K run (for people only) at 9:30 a.m.; the chip-timed 5K run (for people and their dogs) at 9:45 a.m.; or the one- or two mile walk (for people and their dogs) at 10 a.m. The run/walk will take place at Hart Park, 7300 Chestnut St. in Wauwatosa and will be emceed by Nicole Koglin, Anchor for “FOX6 WakeUp” and “Real Milwaukee.”

Attendees can register for Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC at www.madaccwalkrun.org by June 16 to save $5 off the entry fee. Registration for the walk is $20 through June 16 and $25 the day of. Registration for the run is $25 through June 16 and $30 the day of. Children 13 and under are free. The commemorative Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC tech T-shirt availability or size is not guaranteed for day of registration.

All paid registered runners and walkers of Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC will also receive a goody bag. Medals will be awarded to the overall male and female 5K finishers, plus the top finisher in each of fourteen age groups.

New this year, Friends of MADACC is offering a “Give Back Program” for the many rescue groups and shelters throughout Wisconsin that help find permanent homes for the cats, dogs, rabbits, goats, and other animals from MADACC. Registrants can donate $2 of their registration fee to any of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit placement partners who have rescued animals from MADACC. Simply type in the name of the shelter or rescue in the question section of the online registration form via www.madaccwalkrun.org and $2 will be added to that placement partner’s “give back” amount.

To add to the fun and increase the benefit to the animals, participants can also create their own teams. A team can be made up of family, friends, co-workers, companies, or any group that shares a passion to save lives. Teams help increase the number of lives saved and second chances given – and earn prizes based on the level of fundraising they do. More information is available at www.madaccwalkrun.org.

Following the run/walk will be Central Bark Fido Fest sponsored by Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists. Milwaukee’s “Ulti-mutt day out” benefits Friends of MADACC and will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission. The event will include a wide array of vendors, canine activities, lure coursing, dock diving, live music, food, a beer tent, demonstrations, adoptable animals, kids’ area, and more.

Datamars/PetLink will offer microchips at Fido Fest’s “Safe and Found” booth to pets of Walk, Run, Wag participants for $15, and to pets of all other attendees for $20. Lost Dogs of Wisconsin will scan any pet’s microchip for free, to ensure that it is still operable. MADACC will also offer pet I.D. tags for $5.

Net proceeds raised from Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC and Fido Fest will support building improvements that contribute to the welfare and enrichment of the nearly 13,000 animals taken in by MADACC each year. MADACC rescues and assures safe, temporary shelter, veterinary, and humane care for stray, unwanted, abandoned, mistreated, and injured animals — more than any other animal control shelter in Wisconsin. MADACC works with more than 75 area shelters and rescue groups to place these animals into adoption programs so they have a second chance at finding permanent, caring homes. Dogs and cats that are eligible for placement but have not been transferred to a shelter or rescue group are available for adoption directly from MADACC. In addition, MADACC offers low-cost spay/neuter, rabies vaccinations, and micro-chipping services.
