Don’t Forget the Flowers During Administrative Professionals Week!

Few hard and fast rules apply for giving flowers during Administrative Professionals Week. Barnett suggested matching an arrangement to the recipient’s personality, or their favorite color. The only “no-no” for Administrative Professionals Week is giving red roses, usually reserved for romance. “Buyer beware” also applies. A local florist ties their reputation to every bouquet sold or delivered. Mail-order flowers often have handling fees and arrive “some assembly required,” such as trimming and arranging.

“When choosing flowers as a symbol of appreciation, a good rule of thumb is always ‘Buy local, buy fresh,’” Barnett said. “If you consider an administrative employee or team to be your ‘right-hand’ assistant, then let a professional florist be your ‘left-hand’ resource to make their week special.”

The benefits don’t stop at smiles and good will. A recent eight-month study by Texas A&M University showed a strong link between workplace productivity and the presence of flowers and plants. The research found that employees’ innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities improved substantially when natural blooms and greenery are added to work environments. Even science agrees with giving flowers to employees!

Administrative Professionals Week begins Monday. Barnett suggested placing flowers orders by Friday to be ready for delivery on Monday, or calling orders in to a florist first-thing Monday morning.
